This piece predates candle in function. A reed or twine soaked in tallow would be held in the jaws.

This piece shows a complex form of forged joinery called a box joint. One piece os passed through the other then hammered flat.

This joint is still used in modern surgical tools.

The holder is about 8” tall from the base to the tip.
